Ian Ridpath has been a full-time writer, broadcaster, and lecturer on astronomy and space since 1972. He is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, as well as a member of the Society of Authors and of the Association of British Science Writers. Good entry book.

This book contains a fair amount of general introduction of many sections of Astronomy from which I mostly like the constallation description part.It helps you to get a general idea
of stellar objects. During day time I read around what I'm going to observe at night, so it is very helpful me to get a basic idea of that particular object. It is one of my references in binocular astronomy other than a decent star atlas.It is fun to know a short description of the observing target while you are behind the eyepiece. So I highly recommend this book for novice members.
