Very good, easy to use summaries

The legal briefs are well written and give you the basic facts and rules for every case. The only downside is unavoidable: summaries mean some of the facts and legal reasoning from each case are left out. This book is a perfect substitute for reading the textbook when the cases are short and simple. I would recommend supplementing the reading here with the textbook for the more difficult and more detailed cases.

About the Author
Bill Carruthers was born in 1924 in Glasgow. He won a bursary to Glasgow University, where he graduated with a first class honours degree in 1946 and a PhD in 1949. He moved to Exeter in 1956, working first for the Medical Research Council and then, from 1968, as a Lecturer then Senior Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, University of Exeter. A beautiful book

This is one of the best books avaliable for understanding the beauty as well as utility of Organic Synthesis, a science which is also an art. Carruthers' book is in my opinion an excellent book for beginning graduate level.The chapters and the examples are very well chosen to illustrate the elegance of synthetic methods. I especially liked the chapters on oxidations and reductions. Examples of naturals products syntheses are ample and increase the utility of the book. All the references are clubbed together at the end of the book. All in all, a fascinating book for the serious organic chemistry student. However, it could use an update to reflect the new methods and syntheses of the 90's.

An effective and very spiritual mehod of divination

Linda Falorio has created a wonderful system of divination that gives you the oppurtunity to spiritually grow with every spread that you do. I feel that this book really opened my eyes about what I should be doing with tarot: using it to understand myself. Not only does this system teach you how to use the ancient oracle the tarot, but it teaches you about the mysteries of the Kabbalah and ties them into the spreads to gain more insight on your life. This book is a must-have for someone seeking new ways to grow spiritually and find themselves. I would recommend this book for someone who has at least a year or more experiance with tarot.

This is something I would never have expected to see at Amazon -- the Shadow Tarot meets my every criteria for a truly magic(k)al book, a thing found when you need it, a thing that reads you at least as much as you read it. For anyone setting out on "the labyrinthine feeling way" or already fascinated by the Night Side, this is a perfect gateway, and it comes with a complete set of tools. In my opinion, this is the most important work done in the realm of the tarot since Lady Frieda Harris and Aleister Crowley put their heads and souls together.

Linda Falorio is my hero

I am so absolutely ecstatic that this book and deck has been rereleased. I had a copy years ago that I lost in a house fire and the price of that copy has shot up on ebay, etc. This is one of the best books on a subject that there is very little credible information written. She is on a level with Kenneth Grant in regards to everything and anything Qlipphotic in nature. I won't be buying this until next week when I get paid, but I fully endorse this book and recommend that anyone interested in the nightside, the tree of death, qlipphoth, the tunnels of set would be greatly benefited by this book. There is true spiritual gold here.

Soulful Wisdom from Animal Companions

The Secret Language of Animals Oracle Cards is artistically well-designed with a nicely organized and thoughtful companion book. Chip Richards, author, and Jimmy Manton, of Australia together work their respective magic by bringing the precious teaching wisdom of our own endangered animals to our consciousness.
The cards measure 3 ¾ x 5 ½ inches, with rounded corners, and the paperback book is very complete at 168 pages and approximately 4 ½ x 6 ¼ x 3/8 inches. The outer design of book, cards and box features the proud lion, with yellow and gold tones. All is enclosed in a sturdy and colorful box. But the oracle cards show a wide range of colors, from the carefully painted art of talented Jimmy Manton—illustrator of no less than five oracle decks, and counting. A number of cards are creatively textured with line designs around the animal figures—drawing which evokes Aboriginal art or tribal batik.
The oracle is divided into five elements; including water, earth, air, fire and wood. Each set of elements has a master element card and eight animals. The final, 46th card, is Gaia, our mother Earth. The message for each card comprises three pages, with a small black and white image of that card. There are key words given for each card, background description of environment and habit, as well as meanings (messages) and a final positive affirmation on which to focus, to breathe in the essential wisdom of that animal.
Each card is numbered, allowing for easy location sequentially in the text, or the reader can find each card page number in the Contents. A number of the animals are from down under, yet not exclusively. The reader will find familiar characters, like eagle, elephant and sea turtle; as well as creatures not necessarily well known—dugong, orange blossom jellyfish, and black cockatoo. The variety of animals--from lowly stick insect to blue whale—evenly matches the wide range of wisdom that is available on our planet and represented by these teaching life companions.
Twelve pages of the book are devoted to additional information about the status of these animals, and three pages listing more information, including websites and contacts to encourage actions to provide conservation and support to these same companion creatures.
A few suggested spreads or modes of reading the oracle cards are detailed in the book; I employed the Medicine Wheel spread of six cards and I found this layout a nice compromise, between the one card draw and the ubiquitous 10 card Celtic cross (the latter given in other sources).
How can you not love an animal oracle deck? From our initial curiosity as children, hugging stuffed animals and watching with fascination at the critters in our backyard, our journey on this planet is intimately connected with our fellow earthlings—whether four or eight legged, winged or fin. The Secret Language of Animals Oracle is educational, planet-wise and user friendly. Two snaps up, a good job indeed!

Beautiful, Strong Oracle Deck. Unique.

A very powerful Oracle Deck. This is among my favorite Oracle decks and one of the ones I choose to travel with out of the nine (9) I own. The artwork is absolutely beautiful and the messages are strong and clear. There are varied spreads and you can even separate the animals into five different elements and work with them that way instead. A unique twist on other Oracle decks. I have not tried them that way yet, but have gotten wonderful readings from this deck, whether it be pulling just one card or doing an entire spread.

The book begins with a discussion of the biological and metaphysical aspects of Darwin's own conception of evolution. It goes on to reject two versions of "fundamentalism"―the Christian anti-evolutionism of authors such as Phillip Johnson and the anti-Christian scientism of authors such as Richard Dawkins―and to explore the possibility of a dialogue between evolution and Christian thought from the perspective of Pope John Paul II.

Next, Życiński calls into question the classical opposition between the teleological and the causal interpretation of evolutionary processes. He attempts to overcome that opposition by reliance on the concepts of supervenience and an evolutionary attractor. In this way, he proposes a new approach in which teleological anthropomorphisms as well as reductionist metaphors are avoided.

The author then presents a theology of nature in which particular attention is given to the immanence of God and to Divine kenosis. Finally, the book offers a theological anthropology, including chapters on the harmonization of paleontology and theological anthropology, the limits of sociobiology, and original sin in relation to scientific knowledge of the human person.

This superb book shows how faith and reason need not be set in opposition to one another.

Science, with its discovery of evolution, positively enriches theology. The study of nature improves our knowledge of God.

Archbishop Zycinski argues that both Christian anti-evolutionism and anti-Christian scientism are each regrettable fundamentalisms. The Archbishop rejects both extremes.

Evolution is a joke that is forced on us in school.

This book was just too wordy. The topic is very easy to understand and the facts are there for anyone who wants to search for the truth. This book could do it a lot simpler than it did. I wasn't impressed.

A good introductory overview - but a little weak on real world applications

This book uniquely covered the traditional construction management subjects of estimating, scheduling, control, then added preconstruction activities and project delivery methods, followed by construction law and safety. These subject, which are integrated together in the work world, are usally found in 3-4 different books.

Some additional depth, such as adding order of magnitude estimating, and estimating by assemblies, was a welcome addition.

A little more "this is how it is really done in the real world" would have been helpful.Choosing Project Success - A Guide for Building Professionals

Good exposure to a lot of basic principles

This can give you a basic idea of what management is going to be like, and the tasks that will be necessary, but in all reality, a book isn't going to tell you how to do your job. If you have to buy this for coursework, I still don't know if I would consider buying it unless it's mandatory. Even then, you could just check it out from the library if they've got one or two on reserve. There isn't a whole lot in this book that isn't common sense, and there isn't a whole lot that will really get you anywhere if you're already a professional. I spent my money on it because I always bought all my books for my classes, but this is one of those books that I rarely opened before and I will probably never open it again.

Good starting place for novices

Very basic information, far too many recommendations, of "Take it to a professional" instead of more detailed discussion. The secion on restoring as double was banal at best.

Fun to read, but not the best reference book around.

I love Sweeney's writing, and I've been trying to track down all of his books. This one was about par for him and was an enjoyable read. There isn't much information here that you won't find elsewhere. What you DO get is Sweeney's wonderful prose and some fun stories. At current prices, this book isn't worth buying, but if you could get it for cover price or less, you might consider it.

There ARE lots of instances in which Sweeney advises taking your gun to a professional. This is the advice for which you are paying-- he won't tell you to perform a procedure that is beyond your abilities. Sweeney presumes (correctly) that most readers will be casual hobbyists and not professional-grade gunsmiths. After all, a professional probably doesn't need to consult Sweeney's book. He already knows how to do the job. A shotgun is pretty simple, and most jobs are either very easy, or strictly for pros, with very little ground in between. This is even more true of double guns, and restoring a nice double is DEFINITELY a job for a pro. When the gun costs as much as a used (or maybe a new) car, you DON'T do the work yourself, unless you are a pro gunsmith. Doing the job yourself is a false economy. It's WAY too easy to ruin a beautiful shotgun.

There are the usual typos and I wish Sweeney would get himself a decent editor, just once.

Not as in-depth as I was looking for.

Good book and the author is very knowledgeable but I was looking for something a little more in depth. I am a gunsmithing student and have done many of the fraudsters he recommends sending to the factory or a professional to complete. But it may help that we have a full shop and good instructors.

An upscale woman from Washington, D.C., falls hopelessly in love with an oafish Appalachian farmer in veteran author Martin's engaging romantic fairy tale, which begins when 30-year-old Katherine Renault retreats to her rich fiance's backwoods cottage to escape the pressures of urban life. She gets more than she bargained for when she encounters a farmer named David Long, known by the locals as Bear, trying to help a couple of villagers save a dying cow. Smitten by Long's strength and sense of compassion, Renault drifts toward a friendship with the odd, reclusive farmer, with some help from the local veterinarian who sets up a series of animal rescues for the two that eventually lead to the formation of a shelter. Renault ignores the belief of many villagers that the farmer is retarded and dangerous, and their love is sorely tested when Renault is beaten up by the two rednecks who mistreated the cow that brought the couple together. But Renault focuses on Long's sensitive, loving nature as their deep-seated chemistry quickly moves them toward a permanent union. Martin keeps the narrative clipping along at a sprightly pace, and he never misses a chance to tug at the heartstrings with his cast of heroic animals. The sappy moments are balanced by the author's obvious compassion, but what makes this book work is Martin's portrayal of Long, whose depth, passion and clumsy emotionality become quite endearing. Martin goes a bit over the top with an out-of-nowhere ending involving Bear's brother and Renault, but this novel has plenty of winning moments for readers seeking a warm, fuzzy romantic journey with plenty of critters along for the ride. Adult/High School-Joseph Long, also known as Bear, is an improbable romantic figure. His large stature; shuffling gait; shyness; and three "problems" (he can't think of the right words when agitated, he forgets to close his mouth, and occasionally does inappropriate dances or jigs) all contribute to the debate by his Appalachian neighbors as to whether or not he is retarded. He cannot bear cruelty to those who are helpless, particularly animals. Katherine Renault has retreated to her fianc‚'s Appalachian cabin while recovering from illness and disfiguring surgery. Also an animal lover, she and Bear meet while trying to save a dying cow from being tortured by its owner, and she soon learns there is more to this man than meets the eye. Before long, Bear and Katie (who is no longer engaged) are rescuing animals, and sometimes people, who are neglected, mistreated, and suffering. Of course there are villains; the farmer who owned the cow and his friend burn down Bear's barn and grievously injure Katie. The couple perseveres, however, mainly due to Bear's big heart and single-minded devotion; marry; have a child; and begin an animal-rescue mission. No happily ever after endings occur for the long term, however. Bear's death, though, is mitigated, … la It's a Wonderful Life, by the outpourings from his community for all his good works. The characters are quirky and the story isn't really grounded in reality, but this is a feel-good romance that shows that "different" doesn't have to mean "bad" or "threatening" while putting in a plug for kindness and sensitivity to animals.

Bear is a lonely Appalachian farmer who raises cattle, shoots groundhogs, and traps mice. His greatest fear is that no one will come to his funeral. When Kate Renault walks into his life on a mission to rescue abused animals, "crazy love" is born. Kate is a city girl on temporary leave from her usual life. She enlists Bear's help with her mission, and he goes anywhere she leads without question. Then animals begin to talk to Bear, and he changes his attitude as his relationship with them, and with Kate, develops. As crazy love spreads, it touches unexpected people and changes their lives, too. This charming love story is emotionally evocative but unsentimental, and the characters are well rounded and believable. Another brilliant piece of fiction from David Martin!!!

As with every David Martin novel that I have read, Crazy Love is populated with fascinating and well-rounded characters that live in your memory long after the last page is turned (which happens much too soon). Katherine and Bear bring this gripping story to life in a way that lets the reader feel completely involved with the story. I can't stress enough how much readers of quality fiction are missing if they don't read the books of David Martin. So few authors these days are as reliable for a solid story with gripping characters, plot twists and satisfying endings. David Martin will not disappoint you...
Treat yourself.

I'll never look at animals in quite the same way

I'm buying extra copies for friends, and I can't wait for the paperback (there WILL be a paperback?) so I can buy lots more.
Crazy Love is intense and romantic, and the animal characters as vivid as the humans. I guess it could be compared to Dr. Doolittle, Deliverance, Old Yeller. Martin's a master, always unexpected but not at the expense of his characters. He never cheapens them.

entertaining romance

DC lobbyist Katherine Renault fled the capital to escape well meaning people constantly badgering her as she recovered from the operation. She chose her fiance's Appalachia cottage as being as far from Washington as one can get without going to a third world nation.

After months in her mountain retreat, Kathryn joins an animal rescue team. Her first mission involves two men abusing a cow. There she watches compassionate Joseph David "Bear" Long intercede so that the animal can die with dignity. Soon Bear and Katie as he calls her become an entry in more ways then one as they rescue animals and fall in love. However, everyone knows she is a sophisticated urbanite and he is a retarded hillbilly. Thus no one will bet on this couple surviving together once she inevitably goes home.

This mushy novel is an entertaining romance between two polar opposites. The rescue missions seem too easily achieved yet the plot hooks the audience from start to finish due to the endearing cast. Bear and Katie make a warm odd couple. The secondary characters including the animals provide the necessary depth so that the audience can observe the robustness of the lead duet's relationship. David Martin's tale seems so real encouraging the reticent to go find their own CRAZY LOVE.
